


John grew up on the north end of Whidbey Island, in and around Cornet Bay. He has a lifetime of working knowledge of the waters in the Puget Sound, and has dedicated his life to boating and boating safety.
He has competed in many rowing and seamanship competitions locally which led to being selected in 1990, to compete in an international seamanship competition in Denmark, representing the USA along with 21 other ambassadors from around the US.
Upon return form Scandinavia, John enrolled in the Skagit Valley Marine Technology program working towards an Associates Degree in Marine Maintenance Technology.
In 1986 John became a certified SCUBA diver to assist with servicing customers of Marine Services and to meet the growing demand for experienced divers of small boat salvage in the Puget Sound. John is now Dive Master for the Marine Services on the water team.
In 1993 John obtained his USCG 50-Ton Masters license to operate Commercial Assistance Vessels for Marine Services, under the flag of Vessel Assist Whidbey, and has subsequently upgraded to a 100-Ton Masters license.
John spent 11 years serving Island County District 2 North, Cornet Fire Dept. as a Volunteer Firefighter and EMT. He was instrumental in the development and training of the Water Rescue Program that is still in service in the waters around Whidbey Island.
In 1994 John started a career as a Professional Firefighter / EMT at NAS Whidbey Island and continued until 1998, when he returned to Marine Services where he continues to serve as an on-call Mechanic, Vessel Assist Captain, Dive Master and Salvage Diver.
